No One Fights Alone... what a strong statement of what it means to be a part of the human race. This should be all of our motto, dontcha think?
We're in this life together, to help one another through it whether it be by prayer, by a hug, by a hand or by a wallet.
Tonya Petchel was an incredibly special woman, who lived by this. Even in her personal fight with Liver Cancer, she was always looking to see how she could help and be there for others.
Tonya lost her fight with Liver Cancer in January of this year. Although she knew, as do we, that she was departing to her heavenly home, she is terribly missed here on earth.
There's something special about leaving a positive impact on people while you are alive. Tonya did just that. She left a legacy of compassion, faith and kindness.
When we selected Tonya as our adult beneficiary, we were sure that she would live long enough to have her wish fulfilled. Unexpectedly, God had another plan. With her passing a week and a half before our big event, where we planned to honor her, we felt there was only one thing to do... pass along her wish fulfillment to her family.
One of the idea's we had for Tonya, was a "Half Marathon". I, not knowing what a half marathon was, felt so bad that she, an avid marathon runner, couldn't run in the Carlsbad Half Marathon, as she had planned to do. My impetuous decision led to the planning of the 2017 Charity for Charity Fun Runs & Tonya Petchel Half Marathon to be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Temecula Valley Wine Country. Did I get overwhelmed by the idea of doing an event I knew NOTHING about? YES. Did someone come up to me after the announcement and offer to help me? YES! They did! Are friends and supporters donating services and items to make this happen? YES. Does God bless efforts of my impetuous heart? YES.
So, thanks to the support of those around us, WE WON'T FIGHT ALONE. We are hosting this event, in honor of our beloved Tonya and we will carry out this motto, that she exemplified, throughout the race! We will continue to keep this way of thinking, in all that we do for others and we hope to make Tonya and her family proud as we go out and take on this event that was clearly meant to be!
