TEENS! Oh how we love our teens!! I mean, sure, there's the challenge of "Teenage years", but despite the challenges of hormones and attitudes, there are many incredible things about TEENS!
I actually love teens! They are our future. They are our now. They can still be molded, yet are developing a mind of their own.
Teens are among some of the most witty, smart, informed, current and fun people out there... just give them a chance to prove it!
It's true, we do live in a ME, SELFIE and ENTITLED world and yes, many teens have the "syndrome", but many adults have it too. Even though there is this stigma, there's still hope for our youth and our future...
I believe in inspiring our teens while they're still teens! In the world of helping others, you find that people don't tend to step up and do something until it hits close to home.
For example; a friend or family member gets cancer, you start to get involved in events that raise money for research, or you walk in honor of a loved one. You raise funds to help a friend or family member struggling with an illness. You reach out and ask for others to join your efforts. This is incredible and extremely special... if we can just get people to find what their hearts passion is BEFORE it hits home, we could get so many more people involved in helping one another and working together for good.
There are a couple ways that we, at Charity for Charity, have come up with, to help our youth find their passion for others while they are still teens.
First, we offer scholarships to local school scholarship programs, to encourage students to do QUALITY community service hours. We look for students whose community service makes a difference in the lives of others and shows compassion for their neighbor. We pick from 1 to 3 students and donate $1000 to each school district (Temecula and Murrieta). We hope this encourages students to get involved in something bigger then themselves and something that can make a difference in their lives as well.
Another way we try to inspire teens to get involved is through our "Teen Wishbrigade". Our TWB is a group of teens 13 to 19, who meet once a month and plan teen oriented event/fundraisers as well as help CFC with our big events. They have the opportunity to meet our beneficiaries and build a relationship with them too! (that's their favorite part). They work together in the meetings, taking on responsibilities and are a fantastic part of our efforts in making a difference.
Our teens have a lot to offer! Give them a chance, an opportunity and support and watch what grows and develops from them! They are our future and they can make a difference in the lives of others!
We need to lead by example, encourage them along their way and share with them our wisdom, passion and love...
